My search for a new career opportunity has ended. Tomorrow I will begin working for Downtown Ecommerce Partners & I am very much looking forward to it. It’s a chance to build upon my ecommerce experience while working towards something bigger. I am excited to be joining a small team of experienced ecommerce professionals. From what I have learned thus far, it is a good fit philosophically & professionally.
I spent a good bit of time researching other opportunities; whether they be directly with an agency or with a recruiter. I was able to reconnect with some old colleagues & establish relationships with new people in this industry.
I am a bit surprised with how this came to fruition. I literally met with Downtown Ecommerce on Friday (having worked for one of the co-founders previously helps) & made my decision on Sunday. The previous two weeks were spent researching & talking to recruiters & agencies. I should have known that my next opportunity would come from my existing network; every job, post-college, I’ve ever had was obtained this way.
Thanks to everyone who helped open new avenues, offered guidance & support, or just listened to me worry about where I would end up.
Congratulations sir. I’m sure you’re gonna rock and roll over there. Although you might not have the same kind of quality right outside your office as you did in your last place, haha.
Thanks Matt! I would say it’s weird to be back in the saddle, but two weeks out of work is really only an extended vacation…or something. I actually told a story that included you today when we were talking about close working proximities & the use of instant messenger. Your reaction when I first im’d you was priceless.
Congrats, Brian! I’m so glad it worked out so fast. But you point to why: you worked your network.
I’m teaching cover letters & resumes in my technical communications writing class tonight, and even though we talked about job boards, I presented students with a sobering fact: out of all jobs filled, about 10% come from responses to job ads online. The real ticket to finding a good job — and the right job for you — is by having that network in place for when you need it (freelancers are working on this constantly because we’re always looking for new gigs and assignments and leads…)

Brian, congratulations! Great news…for Downtown ECommerce Partners, that is. I am sure you will rock the house.
Thanks Jen & Beth!
congrats Brian!
I’m a little late…. but CONGRATS on your new venture! Sounds like you are pleased – so I’m sure it will be great!
Better late than never
Thanks Chris & Kim!
